A second chance

It turns out that although all the king's horses and all the king's men couldn't put Humpty Dumpty together again, the people at the Apple store could.

Let's just say they were very kind and gracious to me when I needed it most.

My new iPad...

I have come to realize that events that happen in my day-to-day life reflect what God is showing me in my spiritual life. I messed up with my iPad, and I got a second chance. I mess up with God, and he gives me a second chance- every single day.

These past couple of years I have felt at times that my life was cracked, shattered and falling apart, just like the nursery rhyme (and my iPad) I learned as a child. However, it's those moments when I hear God's voice and feel his presence, even if I don't want it at the time. He is with me, beside me, and sometimes dragging me forward, rebuilding and creating something new.

Just when I think He's not there, God shows up and He doesn't disappoint. After a difficult year, I am able to see the times when He carried me so I could see the light. The light is the blessings we are given, even when we don't deserve them.

So today I am counting my blessings and loving my second chance- with my iPad and God.

And in case you are wondering, that wallpaper is an actual photo I took from our balcony. A Maui sunset, a blessing indeed.

 

Humpty Dumpty's iPad

It's been a rough week over here and it ended with a crash, literally. My iPad 2 went from looking like this:

to Kids+Asphalt=Disaster.

Now I admit, I cried. I cried realizing how stupid it was to be crying over a thing, but when you're a mom of three, there just seems like there's very little that is just yours anymore.

It was my own fault- I was letting the boys watch a video on it during a car trip. On our way back, before I drove away, I realized one of the boys wasn't buckled and went to open up the door. At that same exact moment, my iPad flew out (hard case on) and face planted onto the asphalt. The scene of the crime was not pretty.

The boys were immediately sorry but the damage was done. Through my tears I told them that it wasn't their fault, that it was just a thing and people are more important than things (translation: mama is having an emotional breakdown but it is not the end of the world).

Luckily the function of the iPad still works so I might be able to get the screen repaired, fingers crossed. If I do get it fixed, this will be one thing that I won't be sharing anymore.

Oh yeah, the moment before I dropped my iPad on the concrete. The smart cover is great but doesn't protect anything when it falls!

   

Apparently when I said my kids were not going to play with it because I didn't want them to break it, I needed to include myself. My butterfingers did minimal damage, I did scrape the corners a bit and needed a tiny superglue repair but I was lucky: at least the screen didn't crack.

I'm thinking I might get a cover like this, but that seems a little too much. Like trying to get the perfect purse, the hunt continues for the perfect-for-me iPad 2 case (aka protection against its owner).
