Having a van without a radiator means you have to get creative. I wanted BBQ beef sandwiches tonight and had no beef, so I loaded the kids in the bike stroller and wore Amelia in my carrier. Carrying 16 lbs. up front and pushing 60- it was a workout, that's for sure!
Of course, one little girl happened to get hungry and I mean screaming hungry. So I had to stop where we were and feed her.
Somehow I managed to get the beef, feed her and get everyone all home. All in a day's work.
I am not afraid to breastfeed in public. I've breastfed my boys 8 months and 10 months. Unless you stay at home a lot, or you pump a lot, you have to get comfortable doing it. I wasn't at first, but as with anything, practice helps.
With the third baby, I don't even bother with the blanket most of the time. I am still discreet, I'm not into flashing anybody. If I'm in a restaurant, I will go sit where there's not a lot of people, sometimes there's a bench by the restrooms. With my boys, I've had to breastfeed in public restrooms because I was afraid to with lots of people around- I didn't want to make anyone uncomfortable.
Now I don't like to feed my baby in a restroom. Would you want to eat your meal there? No, and that is what I would say if anyone ever said anything to me. However, sometimes it's just easier to.
Yesterday the whole family was at Bookmans, a used bookstore, when Amelia was getting fussy. She was not a happy camper. I was going to sit in one of the chairs they had for reading and feed her, but there was people around everywhere, my boys were running around and she was getting even more fussy. Sometimes when she gets like that, it takes her a little bit to settle down to nurse. Meanwhile, I didn't want my boob hanging out for everyone to see while she screamed. I had a blanket but that would have made things worse.
I went to the bathroom and found a purple velvet chaise lounge chair! Pure heaven, except maybe the flushing toilets :). She was able to calm down and nurse. A few women came in, saw me, gave me a knowing smile, went to the bathroom and left. It was great! Every bathroom should have one.
