I am an Arizona Cardinals fan. I have been an Arizona Cardinals fan ever since they came here, even when they played in a college stadium, even when they sucked. Oh yes, many years of rooting for a team going 4-12, 6-10, 4-12 and even 3-13 ouch.
Then, when they went to the Superbowl? I was living in the Philippines! In fact, their best two years was when I was living out of the country. Go figure.
Watching football with my dad was how I learned my colors. Back then, we had to root for my dad's old team, the San Francisco 49ers. That team helped me learn my old house address for Kindergarten (we lived on 49th Ave.).
My mom loved the Dallas Cowboys, although I'm not sure why- maybe the good looking uniforms! I remember going to one Cardinals game rooting for the Cowboys. Yes, that's what you did back then- go to the Cardinal game so you could root for the other team. At certain games, there were more jerseys for the other team than red ones. And if you were wearing a Cardinals jersey, you usually left the game with your head down amongst the throngs of fans in other colors.
But I came around, I became a true Cardinals fan, even before they built the fancy stadium. You know you are a Cardinals fan when you were willing to go to a college stadium without air conditioning in 95 degree weather to root for your team.
My mom may have liked the Cowboys for their cool uniforms but I must say I am loving new black uniforms of the Cardinals! I think this will be their "don't mess with us" look.

The red sea...

Pregame prayer time...

Taken right after Max Hall decided he was running it in for a touchdown!

Watch out Cheeseheads... it's the Cardheads (that is, my dad and I)! They were a big hit at the game, but we didn't make it on TV.

Another thing to love about the Cardinals? All the drama! This team is just as bad as any soap opera. They play their first game of the season next Sunday and we still don't know the quarterback lineup! And just when you thought you couldn't talk any more about the QB situation, you can always speculate on when/where they are wearing those awesome black uniforms (they only get to wear them once in preseason and twice during regular season).
Watching football has taught me a lot. A few years ago I learned that Edgerrin James was one person, not two (say it to yourself slowly, you'll get it) and tonight I learned the finer points of uniform wearing. I am teaching my sons to shout at the TV and cheer for their team (loudly). Most of all it's taught me that I can hang out with my dad and just be me for the night, not mom, not wife, just me.
And now, even though I may only catch snippets of the game as I play referee to a 5 year old and 3 year old boy while nursing a 4 month old baby girl, I am still a Cardinals fan!
